NetTools A network admins' best-friend – Front end for PSTools & more I can’t remember how I found PSTools, but all I do remember thinking “Why didn’t someone tell me about these sooner!” I enjoy working from the command line. I’m sure many of you began clacking away at a DOS prompt in much the same way I did. I still use command line tools frequently, and most often in batch files. PSTools can be a wonder in batch files, but I find them more useful in day to day administration. I really wanted a way to combine my favorite tools into one quick and simple package. And yes, I also wanted a GUI front end…;) Thus began NetTools. **Note: NetTools was designed with 2000 Active Directory or above environment in mind. The main purpose of NetTools is remote computer administration. Which helps me stay at my computer and working! To get started using the program you need to download PSTools from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pstools.shtml, STRCM(Systemtools Remote Control Manager) from http://www.systemtools.com/strcm/strcm_main.htm, and NetUsers.exe from http://www.systemtools.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?NetUsers. The Terminal Services connection uses the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx. You also need your favorite VNC program. I prefer Ultr@VNC here http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/download.htm. Other than the RDP client, just extract everything to the program’s root folder. I would have loved to include these utilities, but the threat of large fees and possibly jail time prevents it. I’m sure you can understand…I’m too pretty for prison. Hehe. You are now ready to get started using the program. You can enter a computer name, IP address, or browse for a computer name. Then you simply start clicking buttons. There is no help file, because the buttons have tool tips. Truth is, I am too lazy to write a help file. ;) Besides, I’m not here to teach you how to use these programs, that is what their help files are for! Comments and suggestions should be sent to me, gregsowell@extensiontech.net.
