Intro:

Are you backing up your computer? Are you backing up your files at least? No? Do you think you should? Well, this is one of the newest accessories from Coolmax. The F1-B, for short. What it does is make an image of your C:\ drive for complete disaster recovery. You can backup files additionally from your C:\ Drive, or any other drive. Sound like something you would use?

The overview, features, and includes below is a copy and paste from the Coolmax website. I colored the text of this model in yellow. For some reason...

Overview:

"SECURITY" is and has always been our main concern. We spend tons of money for various software devices and services to secure and protect our files and computers from dreaded virus attacks, hackers and specially ourselves when we accidentally delete or corrupt a file. Just when you think that restoring your corrupt files and backing up your data are enough. We are introducing the “ultimate sidekick”: Your portable little lifesaver is our Coolmax 3.5” Xtreme Files F-1B which has the full capability to not only perform total, or selective back-up functions. This new XtremeFiles Drive includes 5 special features that can give you the peace of mind you had always searched for; but had never found.

Features:

  • Easy operation, no hassle with complicated software operation.
  • XtremeFiles Back-up and Restoration function with single touch of a button.
  • OS backup ( bootable backup ) and restore.
  • Auto format and restore your backed up entire C: drive back to any HDD.
  • Security for muti-user with lock-in user name.
  • Sectable Backup\Restoration: Windows Operating System, Total or selective data.
  • Selectable restoration by back-up date.
  • Capability of backing up all the files, systems and partitions up to 4 HDDs on a single PC.
  • The product can also be used as a normal USB external HDD for other storage purpose.
  • External USB2.0 HDD solution at 480 Mbps/sec, 40 times faster than the USB1.1 HDD

Specifications:

Includes:

  • External hard drive
  • USB cable
  • External AC power adapter
  • Installation software CD
  • Xtreme Files Driver
  • User's guide
  • Coolmax limited warranty

The packaging:

The front of the packaging clearly shows what size drive that is included. It also focuses on the F1 can help you. The back of the box gives you a bit more info on what the F1 can do, which is what you just saw above.

Opening the package reveals what you see below. Well packed, and looking futuristic, as you can clearly see now. I'll show you what comes in the box on the rest of this page...

Power:

An AC adapter is needed to provide 12, and 5 Volts to the hard drive. The power brick uses a standard PC cord, so no fear if you lose it for instance. Not pictured, and on the other side of the adapter, when the power brick has power, a green LED will light up. Helpful if you need to troubleshoot, for instance.

The CD:

Very important. Install software, and when your C:\ drive fails, boot off that to restore your last backup. The F1 will show up as a plug and play removable storage device when plugged in. But, without installing the software, that drives the buttons, and does the backing up phase, the F1's usefulness is diminished.

The manual:

A pretty well written 22 page manual is included. It covers everything from how to install the software, to a short, but adequate FAQ.

The USB cable:

The 3 foot or so silver/clear cable is below. I wished it was longer, but since it uses the USB standard A to B connectors, getting a longer cable if need be shouldn't be an issue.
